Owned and operated by the University of Southern California, KUSC is the largest and most listened to non-profit classical music station in the country, is the only classical radio station in the Greater Los Angeles Area and is a member of National Public Radio.
When their current offices and broadcasting studios became inefficient and antiquated for their needs, Laura was brought in as lead designer for their new offices.
The offices includes a double-height space with floor to ceiling windows with views on to Olive St. and a bamboo courtyard. Existing office furniture was relocated and considered when choosing finishes for the new space. Chocolate colored cork flooring was paired with locally manufactured Bentley Prince Street Carpet tile. Natural maple and wenge woods were offset with bright white and multiple shades or turquoise in paints, flooring materials and mosaic tiles.
Choosing a viable option for their new offices was challenging. KUSC decided upon the AT&T Center in downtown Los Angeles, a LEED Gold Certified Building. The renovation included removal of a 5 ton safe on the ground floor of the building and a compete gutting of sub-terranean space for five acoustically engineered broadcasting booths.
Project completed while at Klawiter and Associates.
