For the Grande Hotel at the Mountaineer Racetrack and Gaming Resort, the team sought to create a modern art deco aethetic to instill a sense of glamour and sophistication within their guests during their stay at this luxurious resort.
Drawing upon the cosmopolitan interiors of the 1920s for inspiration, the main lobby is an intricate composition of layered finish materials. Streamlined bands of stainless steel, black granite and antiqued and beveled mirror transverse sable colored anigre veneer. Guests lounge on zebra print tub chairs or crocodile embossed leather banquettes. The large floorplan is punctuated by scarlet mohair confidante sofa and ornate period casepieces.
The lobby space, because of its size and scale, needed to be organized. Surrounding the perimeter with columns made from tiers of champagne colored silk accomplished this, adding luxury and warmth to the space. These columns culminate in a silver-leaf barrel-vault accented with custom designed light fixtures.
Every aspect of the Lobby at The Grande Hotel was to be in character. Even the elevator cabs were customized with waterfall etched door-fronts, beveled mirror accents and deco light fixtures. Even the font used for the call buttons was prescribed.
Attention to detail provided many opportunities to expand upon the deco aesthetic. Door panels, stair railings and sconces were all to be in character for this elegant lobby space.
